Having been fascinated in acting from a young age, as a way of studying human behaviour, Evie has a passion for using theatre as a vehicle for driving social change through its capacity to throw light upon stories of misrepresented and underserved communities.
After graduating from drama school, participation in Nottingham Playhouse’s Playwright Playground programme gave them the inspiration to develop Think, a production exploring the lived experiences of two young people admitted to an in-patient mental health unit.
It was this production that catalysed the founding of Mind Out Theatre in 2017. Through collaborative experimentation and improvisation, the company has since worked with emerging talent to encapsulate and encourage conversation around various other social issues, through shows such as The Ladies’ Loo Chronicles and Conversations with Ed.
Their latest work Them?, which is still currently in development, seeks to challenge the status-quo on gender norms and stereotypes through the grim realities of working in a job centre.
Listen in as Evie shares their fascinating journey and their top tips for other theatre makers on the rise!
